Maybe today is the day to... (Christmas edition)

make your own traditions? Whatever you do, do it with pleasure, for there is simply not enough time to waste. What were your favourite things about Christmas as a child? Do you still get the thrill out of them or has time come to change it up - but perhaps not so much as to lose the magic that once surrounded it?

Have and amazing Christmastime and see you next year!
Best wishes,
Mommy G

Maybe today is the day to... (Christmas edition)

watch a holiday movie? Are you stressing out despite your best intentions? Tune out and disappear in your favourite magical worlds. For me, "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" is foolproof and everyone usually loves it, and "Elf" with Will Ferrell is a movie that my husband is not too found of, but one of the few which actually make me laugh out loud. You can also watch something completely unrelated to Christmas - maybe a thriller or a comedy, whatever will be relaxing and fun for you.

Maybe today is the day to... (Christmas edition)

start wrapping your gifts? Was this the year you actually got them all before the start of the holidays? Makes all the difference in the world, doesn't it? Because you don't have to get something expensive and predictable, just because you're running out of time and options, and if you managed it this year, then you probably won't go back to your old ways.
Now it's time to get some wrapping paper and festive ribbons - and get to it, so next week you'll be one step ahead. Personally, despite my obsession with Christmas, wrapping gifts is one thing I just can't stand doing, so I'll ask my husband to do it for me... Lucky me...

Maybe today is the day to... (Christmas edition)

understand that when you're a grown-up, Christmas can be a decision. When you were a kid, others made it happen for you (if you were lucky) and the world seemed special for a while, because of Christmas tree, decorations, gingerbread cookies and gifts, but most of all, because somebody made all these things happen.
As grown-ups we can feel nostalgic about that time, because nothing seems to happen on its own anymore and usually we're the ones making it happen. Gifts have to be bought, cookies made and homes decorated. The trick is that these activities can actually be quite enjoyable, but you have to push yourself to make that first step, as with other things in life, it won't just happen on its own. But once you start, you will be surprised how much you enjoy them and Christmastime might just become the most magical time of the year for you too.

Maybe today is the day to... (Christmas edition)

breathe in Christmastime? You can do it by cooking, baking, lighting scented candles, making decorations from tangerines and cinnamon sticks, brewing spicy teas and coffees. And there are also some more original ways to make your home smell amazing - you can use coconut, pumpkin, caramelized apples, chocolate and peppermint in your culinary masterpieces or just stick to the traditional ones if you like.

Maybe today is the day to... (Christmas edition)

make your special Christmas recipes. If you're too tired today, do it over the weekend, because our festive feelings and memories are closely connected with food and it's time to start celebrating!

Have a great weekend,

Maybe today is the day to... (Christmas edition)

start your own 12 days of Christmas tradition, because there are exactly 13 days left till Christmas and you need to prepare gifts for yourself for each of these days. The trick is that they can't be too big or expensive, or time consuming - you probably can't afford any of these at this time of the year anyway. Instead fill your days with small luxuries...lounging, massages, buying beautiful diaries for next year, festive editions of your favourite magazines, deluxe chocolates, visiting Christmas markets, focusing on what you love and forgetting everything else. Spoil yourself with beauty products, good food and perfumes, just relax and enjoy, because you deserve it.

Maybe today is the day to... (Christmas edition)

daydream. About your perfect Christmas, how it would look, smell and feel like, and how it might make you feel. Today get lost in your fantasies and take a break from reality, for tomorrow you might find that dreams have started to seep into your days to surprise you.

do something for somebody else. Even Scrooge did eventually. Give away gently used clothes and toys, donate money, bake cookies and make meals for strangers down on their luck. Surprise old friends and relatives you haven't had time to visit in a while and give them the gift of your time, because it truly is the most precious gift of all.

Maybe today is the day to... (Christmas edition)

take it easy and make your favourite meal for supper - the one you could make in your sleep. It can be chilli, chicken or risotto (surprisingly easy) - as long as it's simple, tasty and warming, to ward off bad feelings and keep up your energy levels.

Maybe today is the day to... (Christmas edition)

make some Christmas gifts? There are so many ideas to choose from - cookies, candies, jams, chutneys, make-it-yourself gift sets and different inspirations on how to package them up nicely. If you enjoy knitting there are also countless things you can make, which are even more special, because there are more cooks than knitters in our age:) But it only works if you do it with love and pleasure, and if you can't, then just rest this weekend, go for long walks and enjoy your holidays!

Have an awesome weekend doing what you love best!

Maybe today is the day to... (Christmas edition)

listen to old Christmas standards - both new versions and the originals. It doesn't take any effort, yet makes you feel festive and light-hearted and there are also so many to choose from. Breathe in, breathe out and sing along to your favorite ones...

create Christmas memories for your children. Even if it is the last thing you want to do right now, start and soon you will feel much better - make gingerbread cookies, decorate the Christmas tree, play games and sing songs, go for walks in snowy streets or fields with your little ones. They'll always remember it and so will you.

Maybe today is the day to... (Christmas edition)

send Christmas cards to old friends and relatives. There's no better time to greet old acquaintances, ask for forgiveness and cheer those who have had a hard year. You'll have an amazing time writing and sending these cards and you can also add some chocolates or candies for a truly amazing holiday feeling.
It might seem a small gesture, but it's really not - because it lets people know you remember about them and care. And that says something in our busy times.

P.S. Maybe these posts are a little too sentimental for your taste - I just have a soft spot for Christmastime. It comes from the childhood and those who feel this way too will surely understand.
Have an amazing December! Yes, it is possible!

Best wishes,
Mommy G

Monday 2 December 2013

So it has come, the season of magic and dreaded month of just too much of everything. My to-do lists for December usually get lost under the piles of things I never knew I needed. Should we try again?
